Judith “Judy” Tabler grew up on Long Island, New York with dogs and a horse. She holds a BA in English, a MEd from the University of Virginia and a MFA from Lesley University. As an educator, she has taught elementary school, writing and literature courses at Marymount University and adult writing classes at the Writing Center in Bethesda, Maryland. She worked in the Education Department of the Folger Shakespeare Library as the Director of the Folger Shakespeare Student Festival Project. In this position, she traveled throughout the United States holding workshops for elementary and high school teachers and students on ways to teach Shakespeare. She also spent several years as an editor at Columbia Books.
Judy combines her passion for animals and education in her writing. In addition to writing award-winning books, she has worked as a freelance writer for the education department at National Geographic, and had articles published in many magazines: AppleSeeds, Calliope, Science Weekly, Renaissance, The World & I, Dog Fancy, Scholastic Magazine Teachers' Guide, Kennel Review, Pure-Bred Dogs/American Kennel Gazette, Dogs in Canada, D Magazine. Currently, she writes a breed column in the American Kennel Club Gazette.
Judy lives near Washington, DC and spends her spare time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and several Skye Terriers.
